BENEFITS OF USING SOLAR
CLEAN ENERGY
We all know the sun is a powerful, natural energy source that isn’t going anywhere any time soon. It doesn’t require any mining and burning it doesn’t create harmful gasses that pollute our atmosphere. Using solar energy just makes sense when you consider the future of the planet.
EASY TO INSTALL
Solar panels can be installed in less than a day and that is usually the case. The more complex your system, the more time it will take. The only major downside is they do require scaffolding to be installed, but this will likely be gone within 24 hours.
EASY TO MAINTAIN
The cost of maintaining a Solar PV system is significantly less than other energy sources. As most systems don’t have any moving parts, the risk of breakdown is reduced significantly and the cost of new parts is removed entirely. This makes Solar PV the most financially savvy choice.
HIGHER EFFICIENCY
As long as there is sun, solar energy can be deployed anywhere. For remote regions that have no access to another source of electricity – and there are vast amounts of them around the world – solar energy is the obvious choice.
SAVE LOADS IN ENERGY BILLS
Generating your own electricity obviously means you’ll use less from your supplier and ultimately save yourself a good chunk of cash, almost instantly. The more energy you produce, the less you’ll need from your supplier.
Additionally, you will peak in the amount of energy you generate at the same time that energy demand is at its highest, thus costing more. Solar energy reaches its maximum production capacity between 10am and 2pm. The tariff you pay during that time could be driven down to a level close to nighttime rates.
MAKE MONEY
The income you generate from Solar PV, comes from selling the energy you generate back to the National Grid at a fixed rate of 37Rs./kWh. The Sri Lankan government aims to achieve 70 percent electricity production by renewable sources by 2030 and net carbon zero by 2050. The objective is to increase the power generation capacity of the country from the existing 4,043 megawatts (MW) to 6,900 MW by 2025 with a significant increase in renewable energy.
FUTURE OF ENERGY USAGE IN SRI LANKA
Sri Lanka plans to add additional renewable and nonrenewable, power plants over the next 10 years, including liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants. The government is working to develop LNG import facilities and related power plants and is considering options for its aging oil refinery. In November 2021, the government signed a contract with a foreign developer for LNG infrastructure, including establishing an offshore Fuel Supply Regasification Unit (FSRU). The current oil refinery is over 45 years old and urgently needs modernization to meet petroleum sector demand. While progress has been slow in adding power generation capacity, and especially from renewable sources, the ongoing fuel crisis has prompted the government to take steps to expedite new projects, including amending the electricity act in June 2022 in response to private sector feedback.
The Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) is actively promoting renewable energy options, and statistics reveal renewable energy contribution is steadily increasing. Sri Lanka has vast solar-wind-energy resources due to its location in the Indian Ocean. Eleven wind power plants are currently connected to the national grid. USAID has assessed wind and solar energy potential for Sri Lanka.

SOLAR PV SYSTEMS AND SOLUTIONS FROM POWERLINE

POWERLINE TECHNOLOGIES (PRIVATE) LTD is a registered company in Sustainable Energy Authority Sri Lanka, we understand the importance of timely execution, maintaining integrity, and the highest quality of standards within the industry. Thus, we use the most efficient and highly advanced technology that makes switching to solar an easy choice. Most importantly, we are committed to building meaningful, local partnerships that bring more than just energy savings to our local communities.
ON-GRID SOLAR SYSTEM
The solar inverter generates electricity using solar panels fixed on the roof and connected to the grid through net metering/net accounting/ net plus system. You have to pay only for the net amount of electricity that you consumed. In this system, if that particular your’s production exceeds your consumption, you can bring forward the balance and consume it in the months forthcoming or get paid Rs.37.00 per unit Net Accounting during for 20 years.
OFF-GRID SOLAR SYSTEM
An off-grid solar system is not connected to the electricity grid and therefore requires battery storage. Off-grid solar systems must be designed appropriately so that they will generate enough power throughout the year and have enough battery capacity to meet the home’s requirements during power outages.
HYBRID SOLAR SYSTEM
Hybrid solar panel systems are similar to the ON-GRID solar system but use batteries to store energy for later use. This ability to store energy enables most hybrid systems to also operate as a back UP power supply. Payments will be done by CEB/LECO as same as on grid systems mentioned.
